To answer your text vs call question, it's fairly simple: who doesn't love getting text messages? they're so much more fun, entertaining, and less of a hassle than phone calls. they are, if you will, my preferred medium of communication!
I think high-fives are uncommon now, because they are a high risk greeting. One can easily miss a banana peel on the floor down low, while concentrating on hitting a hand up high. I wouldn't recommend it.
